After Trump’s return to the White House, illegal immigration to the US decreased by 90%

Since Donald Trump returned to the White House, the number of illegal border crossings into the United States has decreased by 90%.

Three weeks after his return to office, the number of illegal border crossings in the US reached a record low. According to the New York Post, in February, border patrol agents are detaining an average of 359 migrants per day, which is 90% fewer compared to the beginning of 2023. If this trend continues, February will become the month with the greatest reduction in illegal immigration in the last 60 years.

To strengthen control, Trump sent 1,500 soldiers to the border and reached an agreement with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. In response to the threat of a 25% tariff on Mexican goods, the Mexican government deployed 10,000 troops to stop migrants before they reach the border. Trump also plans to require all asylum seekers to wait for their decisions in Mexico.

Since the beginning of February, the US has conducted large-scale raids against illegal migrants who previously violated the law. More than 11,000 people have been detained and deported, with military aircraft used in some operations.

Compared to the Biden administration, the flow of migrants has decreased significantly. In 2023, border patrol agents were detaining 5,590 illegal immigrants per day, while at the start of 2024, the number dropped to 2,872 per day. Now, Trump aims not only to reduce immigration but to stop it entirely.
