The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the European Union grew by 0.2% in the fourth quarter compared to the previous three months, indicating a slowdown in growth compared to 0.4% in the third quarter.
On an annual basis, the economy of the 27 EU countries grew by 1.1%, according to the flash estimate from Eurostat, based on seasonally adjusted data. The economy of the eurozone grew by 0.1% in the fourth quarter. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, the GDP of the eurozone increased by 0.9%.
Among the countries with available data, Portugal showed the highest quarterly growth at 1.5%. It is followed by Poland (1.3%) and Lithuania (0.9%).
The economy of the Czech Republic grew by 0.5% in the fourth quarter compared to the previous three months, according to statisticians’ estimates.
The largest decline in GDP was recorded in Ireland, where the economy shrank by 1.3%. Next are Germany with a decrease of 0.2% and France, whose economy fell by 0.1% compared to the previous three months.
