Orbán: Russia will rejoin global economy and European energy system after peace deal

Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated on Friday, February 14, that Russia will be “reintegrated” into the global economy and the European energy system once a peace agreement is reached and the Russia-Ukraine war ends.

Speaking on state radio, Orbán expressed his belief that if former U.S. President Donald Trump “comes in and establishes peace, and if an agreement is reached, Russia will be reintegrated into the global economy.”

“[Russia will return] to the European security system and even the European economic and energy system, which will provide a huge boost to the Hungarian economy. We will gain a lot by reaching a peace agreement,” he said.

Orbán’s remarks came as Trump announced on February 13 a planned meeting involving representatives from Ukraine and Russia at the Munich Security Conference.
