U.S. sees no role for European leaders in Russia-Ukraine peace talks – Kellogg

The United States envisions Ukraine’s participation in any future peace negotiations with Russia but does not believe European representatives should be involved, according to General Keith Kellogg.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Kellogg reaffirmed that Ukraine will and must be included in any diplomatic discussions.

“The U.S. has never suggested that Ukrainians should be excluded from the discussion,” he stated, emphasizing that the American president has repeatedly underscored Ukraine’s role in peace negotiations.

However, Kellogg made no mention of European leaders participating. When pressed for clarification, he described himself as a “realist” and suggested that while he does not outright oppose European involvement, he does not see a need to include those who are “part of the problem.”

“Remember Minsk-2 – there were a bunch of European leaders there, and they failed terribly,” Kellogg said, citing past diplomatic efforts that did not prevent further conflict.
