The Kremlin has announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin’s aide, Yuri Ushakov, have traveled to Saudi Arabia for talks with a U.S. delegation. This was reported by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, according to Kommersant.
Peskov explained that Riyadh was chosen as the location for the talks because it was agreeable to both sides. He added that the meeting will focus on the restoration of relations between Russia and the U.S., preparations for possible negotiations on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and organizing a meeting between the Russian and U.S. presidents.
It is also reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Saudi Arabia. According to Axios, the meeting between Russian and U.S. representatives will take place on Tuesday, February 18.
