UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer seeks to play the role of a “bridge” between Europe and the US, believing that Britain has a better chance of convincing US President Donald Trump to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. This is reported by The Times.
It is expected that next week, Starmer will visit Washington, where he will present a unified European position on ending the war in Ukraine.
Starmer may also suggest that European countries tone down their rhetoric towards the US after the public conflict between Germany and Vice President Jay D. Vance last week. However, some European officials are skeptical about Starmer’s approach, believing that even if he manages to establish a relationship with Trump, he will not be able to influence the US president on behalf of the EU.
Starmer himself confirmed in an interview with The Telegraph that he plans to meet with Trump in Washington by the end of the month to discuss a possible peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine.
Earlier, Elon Musk launched a campaign against Starmer, accusing the prime minister of ignoring mass migrant crimes and interfering in US elections.
