Dutch Parliament arrest: Teen suspected of terror plot

An 18-year-old man arrested inside the Dutch Parliament is suspected of planning a terrorist attack. The suspect, a Dutch citizen from Nijmegen, was detained in the building with a bladed weapon and is accused of threatening a parliamentary staff member while preparing to commit murder with terrorist intent.

Authorities believe surveillance footage supports their concerns.

“We see a person acting aggressively and with clear intent,” a prosecution representative stated.

Investigators are still working to determine the suspect’s motives, as he has yet to make a statement. At this stage, his potential target remains unknown. A psychological evaluation is planned as part of the investigation.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The suspect entered the Parliament building through the central hall and was eventually subdued in a corridor near smaller committee rooms, more than a hundred meters from the entrance. Military police later transferred him to police custody.

It remains uncertain how he was able to access the building so easily, though some witnesses recall a security guard shouting, “Everyone out!”

The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
