Czech Republic and Slovakia reject sending peacekeepers to Ukraine

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský has distanced his country from the idea of deploying peacekeeping forces to Ukraine, citing uncertainty over potential peace agreements. Meanwhile, Slovakia’s Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár has outright rejected such a possibility.

The two foreign ministers met in Prague to discuss pressing geopolitical issues, including the Munich Security Conference, U.S.-Russia talks in Saudi Arabia, and an emergency summit in Paris.

Lipavský emphasized his reluctance to speculate on military involvement in Ukraine, as the details of any potential peace agreements remain unclear.

“I really don’t want to speculate on the deployment of any troops or forces in Ukraine. We have no idea what a potential peace agreement might look like or what guarantees different sides might provide. That’s why I remain extremely reserved on this matter and avoid public speculation,” said Lipavský.

Meanwhile, Blanár made Slovakia’s stance clear:

“Our position is quite clear. Slovakia will not send its troops to Ukrainian territory,” he asserted.
