Elon Musk signaled agreement with a post accusing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of prioritizing power and money over peace, just as the U.S. ramps up efforts to negotiate an end to the war.
A user on Musk’s platform, X, wrote: “Zelensky doesn’t want peace, he wants money and power.” Musk responded with a “100” emoji, a subtle yet clear endorsement.
Musk’s Shift on Ukraine
Early in the war, Musk was hailed as a key ally, supplying Starlink satellites to restore Ukraine’s communications. But over time, his stance hardened. He mocked Zelenskyy’s calls for Western aid, downplayed Ukraine’s sovereignty, and questioned U.S. assistance, calling it unaccountable and directionless.
His growing political influence isn’t limited to Ukraine. As a close Trump ally, he’s actively backing far-right movements across Europe, from Britain to Germany.
A Surprise Call and Secret Talks
Musk made a surprise appearance on a call between Trump and Zelenskyy last November. While details remain scarce, a Ukrainian official described it as a “normal conversation,” with Zelenskyy thanking Musk for Starlink.
Meanwhile, U.S. and Russian negotiators met behind closed doors in Saudi Arabia—without Ukraine or European leaders at the table. Zelenskyy, blindsided by the talks, insisted Kyiv had no input.
As diplomatic efforts unfold, Musk’s influence—and his skepticism of Ukraine’s leadership—continues to fuel controversy.
