A potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump could happen by the end of February, though finalizing the details may take longer, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The latest U.S.-Russia talks in Riyadh, led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, focused on rebuilding diplomatic ties after years of tension. Discussions covered Ukraine peace talks and the groundwork for a Putin-Trump summit, which would mark the first meeting between Russian and U.S. leaders since 2021.
While Peskov called the negotiations a major step forward, he acknowledged that restoring relations would take time. Lavrov echoed this sentiment, saying both sides engaged constructively and “actually heard each other.”
Trump, following the talks, expressed confidence in his ability to broker a Ukraine peace deal, brushing off concerns from Kyiv about being left out of discussions. When asked if a summit with Putin was imminent, he simply responded, “Probably.”
Rubio, however, clarified that no official date had been set for the highly anticipated meeting.
