Hungary has opposed the European Union’s proposal to allocate a €20 billion aid package to Ukraine, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced in Washington. His statement was quoted on X (Twitter) by Hungarian government spokesperson Zoltán Kovács.
According to Szijjártó, Hungary is against the EU leadership’s proposed aid package, arguing that its purpose is to strengthen Kyiv’s position in negotiations rather than to promote peace.
“We will not support spending European taxpayers’ money to prolong the war,” the Hungarian minister stated.
He also suggested that Donald Trump’s election as U.S. president has shifted global politics toward peace, but claimed that pro-war European liberals are attempting to block these efforts.
“We are closer than ever to a resolution, as direct U.S.-Russia negotiations have revived hopes for peace,” Szijjártó concluded.
