China backs US-Russia ‘”consensus” on Ukraine conflict

China expressed support for the “recent consensus” reached by the United States and Russia regarding the end of the war in Ukraine, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasizing Beijing’s commitment to peace efforts.

Speaking at the G20 summit in Johannesburg on Thursday, Wang stated that China hopes all parties involved can find a “sustainable and lasting solution that takes into account each other’s concerns.”

According to a statement from China’s foreign ministry, Wang added, “China supports all efforts dedicated to peace, including the recent consensus reached by the United States and Russia,” and expressed willingness to play a “constructive role” in peace talks.

Wang’s comments follow a meeting earlier this week between U.S. and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia to discuss the conflict’s resolution—without Ukraine’s participation.
