Israeli authorities are investigating a series of explosions that targeted empty buses in the central city of Bat Yam on Thursday evening, labeling the incident a “suspected terror attack.”
Large police units were deployed to the scene to examine the blasts and search for suspects. Officials confirmed that at least five explosive devices, all equipped with timers, either detonated or were safely disabled.
Israeli media have described the incident as a “strategic terrorist attack,” while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has convened an emergency meeting to address the situation. Police reported no casualties, as the explosions targeted unoccupied buses. In response, security forces conducted nationwide inspections of buses and trains to rule out additional threats.
“We need to determine if a single suspect placed explosives on a number of buses, or if there were multiple suspects,” police spokesman Haim Sargrof told Israeli TV.
The Shin Bet internal security agency has now taken over the investigation, as authorities urge the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and avoid the affected area.
Despite the attack, officials stated that public services will operate as usual on Friday.
