Russia and US held secret talks in Switzerland, report reveals

According to Reuters, Russia and the United States have been engaged in secret negotiations in Switzerland, beginning even before Donald Trump became U.S. president.

The meetings, which centered around Ukraine, have taken place intermittently, with one recent session held in Geneva last week, coinciding with the Munich Security Conference.

The communications channel was reportedly established after Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election on November 5. The participants in these discussions have not been named, though sources indicate they were not government officials. Instead, those involved had diplomatic or security experience.

The report also mentions that some of Trump’s advisors were aware of these secret talks, though the specifics of what was discussed remain unclear, including whether Ukrainians were present or the exact timeline of when the meetings began.

The first official meeting between U.S. and Russian delegations in years took place on February 18 in Riyadh, where the ongoing war in Ukraine was one of the main topics.
