Greece expects growth in tourist traffic in 2024

Despite recent earthquakes on Santorini, Greece’s tourism industry continues to show positive dynamics.

Experts note that the number of foreign tourists arriving in the country keeps growing. However, the question remains whether the seismic activity on one of the most popular islands will impact overall tourism statistics. So far, airlines continue to increase the number of flights to Athens.

Meanwhile, Santorini is experiencing a high rate of booking cancellations for the Easter period—up to 80%. Hotel industry representatives hope for a recovery in tourist flows by May. By mid-March, the situation is expected to become clearer. Greek authorities have stated their readiness to support the tourism sector if necessary.

According to 2024 data, Greece’s tourism sector has shown significant growth compared to the previous year. The increase in tourist flow to Athens and Thessaloniki has been particularly noticeable, even during the winter season.

A study by the Athens Hotel Association indicates that the number of tourists visiting the capital has risen despite a 10% increase in the average room price.

All indicators point to a positive trend in Greek tourism, with European travel markets also showing encouraging growth.
