Musk expresses support for the AfD ahead of the Bundestag elections

American entrepreneur Elon Musk has once again expressed support for the right-wing party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) ahead of the Bundestag elections, set to take place on February 23.

As the elections draw near, Musk emphasized that AfD is Germany’s only hope. In a post on social media platform X, he wrote “AfD!”, accompanied by images of the German flag.

Earlier, in an article for the German newspaper Welt, Musk stated that AfD is the only political force in Germany capable of saving the country from becoming “a shadow of its former self.” His publication sparked heated debates both within Welt and across Germany. Specifically, Welt’s head of opinions, Eva-Maria Kögel, submitted her resignation after the article’s publication. Friedrich Merz, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) candidate for chancellor, called the article an unprecedented interference in the elections.

Despite the criticism, Musk continued to support AfD and even held an online discussion with the party’s co-chair and chancellor candidate, Alice Weidel.

This Sunday, amidst an economic and governmental crisis, Germany will hold early elections.

According to INSA polling data, the CDU, with a 30% rating, remains the leader of the race just three days before the election. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) has 15% support, while AfD is at 21%. The Green Party has 13%, and The Left party holds 7%. The “Alliance of Sarah Wagenknecht – For Reason and Justice” (SSW) may also surpass the 5% threshold to enter the Bundestag.
