Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, in a speech at the American conservative CPAC event on Friday, February 21, accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of refusing to “hold elections.”
In his 15-minute speech, Fico praised Donald Trump, saying that Trump is bringing “peace back to Europe.”
Nobody denies that Russia’s use of military force in Ukraine was a violation of international law. However, Russia had serious security reasons for this, as it had been misled for a long time about the issue of NATO expansion, Fico stated, effectively justifying Moscow’s actions.
According to Fico, the “conflict” could have been resolved much faster, but “the overwhelming majority of EU member states, with the exception of Slovakia and Hungary, supported the idea that the war in Ukraine should be used to politically and economically weaken Russia.”
He also accused the European Union of “pushing itself to the peace negotiation table between the US and Russia, although for three years they have openly supported and continue to support the war in Ukraine.”
In his speech, the Slovak prime minister also supported Trump’s recent statements about Zelensky, stating that the Ukrainian president “actually needs this war.”
When there is a war, there can’t be democratic elections… When there is a war, it is difficult to investigate where a huge portion of the funds provided to Ukraine went, Fico claimed.
Finally, speaking about Ukraine, the Slovak prime minister acknowledged that “peace negotiations” may not lead to a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine and its territorial integrity.
However, Europe must still help the US president as quickly as possible to stop the senseless killings in Ukraine and not obstruct him in achieving this goal, he concluded.
