U.S. President Donald Trump stated that French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer have taken no steps to end the war in Ukraine.
This statement came just days before the scheduled separate visits of the European leaders to the White House. Trump criticized them for providing insufficient financial support to Ukraine, emphasizing that Europe is “giving practically nothing,” while the U.S. is spending significant resources on a conflict happening “very, very far away.”
Additionally, the American president mentioned his intention to sign an agreement securing around $500 billion in funding, likely referring to a deal related to Ukraine’s rare earth metals and minerals.
Macron is expected to visit Washington on Monday, while Starmer is scheduled to meet with Trump at the White House on Thursday.
Meanwhile, new negotiations between the U.S. and Russia are set to begin on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia. Western media suggest that Trump’s sharp rhetoric toward Ukraine may be part of a pressure strategy to secure agreements on mineral resource extraction.
