Trump team says close to peace deal on Ukraine

Steve Witkoff, special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, stated that the American side is “very close” to reaching a peace agreement to resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine.

In an interview with Voice of America, Witkoff did not disclose details of the potential agreement but emphasized that any peace deal would require both sides to make concessions—whether territorial or economic.

You will see concessions from both sides. And this is what the president does best. He brings people together, helping them understand that the path to peace is through compromise and consensus. I believe we will see a very successful outcome, he said.

According to Witkoff, the “Istanbul Protocol Agreement” could serve as a foundation for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. “We have come very, very close to signing something,” he assured.

Donald Trump himself, in an interview with Fox News, questioned the importance of Ukraine’s president participating in peace negotiations.

Meanwhile, on February 18, high-level representatives from Russia and the U.S. met in Saudi Arabia without Ukraine’s participation. Following the talks, both sides agreed to ease tensions in bilateral relations and continue preparations for discussions on the conflict.
