An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Rome due to a bomb threat.
The American Airlines flight, traveling from New York to New Delhi, had to land in Rome on Sunday following a bomb threat, according to ABC News sources. The airline stated that the flight was diverted due to a “possible security issue.”
According to ABC News, a high-ranking official familiar with the situation clarified that the bomb threat was received via email but was later determined to be unfounded.
However, Indian authorities insisted on checking the plane for explosives. As an American official told the network, both the aircraft and passengers were thoroughly screened at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport.
