Steve Witkoff, the special representative of U.S. President Donald Trump, stated that American companies would be able to resume business in Russia if a peace agreement is reached to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
According to Reuters, Witkoff emphasized that such a development would be viewed positively:
If we achieve a peace agreement, American companies will be able to return and do business in Russia. I think everyone will agree that this would be good news, he said.
The special envoy also noted that the U.S. is “very close” to reaching an agreement to end the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine.
Earlier, Donald Trump expressed doubts in an interview with Fox News about the necessity of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s participation in peace negotiations.
Additionally, on February 18, high-ranking representatives from Russia and the U.S. met in Saudi Arabia without Ukrainian participation. Following the talks, both sides agreed to ease tensions in bilateral relations and continue working on preparations for peace negotiations.
