U.S. plans to deport illegals under threat of spreading disease

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is considering implementing new regulations that would allow the deportation of illegal migrants on the grounds of a presumed threat of spreading infectious diseases, CBS News reports, citing internal documents.

According to the network, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to issue an order that would classify migrants attempting to cross the U.S. border illegally as a public health threat. The new measure would involve a mechanism similar to Title 42, which previously allowed authorities to expel migrants without following standard immigration procedures.

CBS notes that officials are discussing the possibility of reinstating Title 42, a policy implemented during Trump’s first term that was used to deport migrants arriving from regions with a high risk of COVID-19 infection. The policy expired on May 11, 2023.

In his inaugural address on January 20, Donald Trump, after assuming office as the 47th President of the United States, vowed to immediately halt illegal immigration and initiate the deportation of millions of migrants. He also declared a nationwide state of emergency due to the situation at the country’s southern border.
