Iran rules out direct talks with the U.S. on its nuclear program

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran will not engage in direct negotiations with the United States regarding its nuclear program.

According to AFP, the statement was made during a press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tehran. Araghchi emphasized that talks with the U.S. are off the table “as long as the policy of maximum pressure continues.”

This statement came after the U.S. imposed new sanctions on Iran, targeting over 30 ships and individuals accused of facilitating the sale and shipment of Iranian oil.

The sanctions were introduced after U.S. President Donald Trump reinstated the “maximum pressure” policy on Iran, returning to the approach he used during his first presidential term.

Earlier, the U.S. withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, which had provided for the lifting of sanctions on Tehran in exchange for limitations on its nuclear program.
