European Council President Antonio Costa held talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of the emergency EU summit, which will take place on March 6.
Costa visited Budapest, where he discussed key issues with Orbán, including support for Ukraine, the potential end of the war, and strengthening Europe’s defense capabilities. These talks are part of the preparations for the upcoming summit, during which the European Commission will present a plan to increase defense spending.
Earlier, Costa met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw, where the two sides reaffirmed their shared position on the priority of military and financial support for Ukraine, as well as the EU’s involvement in peace restoration in the region.
Despite being an EU member state, Hungary maintains a more reserved policy towards Ukraine, which raises concerns in Brussels, especially in light of changes in U.S. policy under Donald Trump’s leadership.
