Meeting between EU diplomatic chief and U.S. Secretary of State in Washington canceled

The planned meeting between EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington will not take place.

According to Euronews, citing correspondent Jorge Liboreiro, Kallas has already arrived in the US capital. Despite the cancellation of talks with Rubio, she will meet with members of the House of Representatives and the Senate and will also speak at two events.

The reasons for the cancellation remain unknown. Earlier, it was reported that Kallas had planned to discuss the role of the EU and Ukraine in future peace negotiations with Rubio.

Meanwhile, EU leaders were briefed by French President Emmanuel Macron on his talks with US President Donald Trump. During his meeting with Macron on February 24, Trump expressed support for the deployment of European troops to monitor a potential ceasefire in Ukraine and suggested that the US might provide some assistance.
