A 68-year-old Swedish man was kidnapped near his home in Skärholmen, Stockholm, brutally beaten, and left to die after his family failed to meet a €42,000 ransom demand. His body was discovered two days later on the side of a highway.
The four Afghan nationals behind the crime gagged and bound the victim, shoved him into a car trunk, and sent his family a chilling message: pay up or “collect the pieces.” Surveillance footage later placed them at the scene, showing them buying silver tape and driving a rental car where the victim’s remains were later found.
Sentences Handed Down:
- Mohamed Musavi, 34, was sentenced to life in prison for murder and human trafficking. He will be deported after serving his sentence, banned from ever returning to Sweden.
- Musawer Abdul Ahmadi, 20, received five years and ten months for human trafficking and will also be deported upon release.
- Ilia Farzad, 18, was a minor at the time and was sentenced to one year and eight months in youth detention. Due to his age, he will be allowed to remain in Sweden.
- Nazanin Hassan Ali, 25, was convicted of aiding fugitives by purchasing flights for the suspects. Despite previous convictions for theft, she received only a conditional sentence and community service and will not be deported.
Adding insult to injury, Swedish taxpayers will foot the €180,000 legal bill for the convicted criminals.
