Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed approval of the Trump administration’s approach, praising its “pragmatism” and “realistic outlook.” He noted that the initial interactions with U.S. representatives have sparked “certain hopes” for improving relations.
Putin made these comments during his participation in a meeting of the FSB Collegium on Thursday.
The Russian leader emphasized that the new U.S. administration’s efforts to restore interstate relations were promising, as there is a “mutual desire to work” toward that goal.
“It is important that our current partners demonstrate pragmatism, a realistic outlook on things, and reject many of the stereotypes, the so-called rules, and messianic ideological clichés of their predecessors, which, in fact, led to the crisis of the entire system of international relations,” Putin stated.
He further added that these ideological clichés “began to undermine the Western community from within,” pointing to economic and political struggles within many Western countries as evidence.
“We see all of this. It is especially evident during domestic political events in these countries,” said the Russian leader.
