Trump considered canceling Zelensky’s U.S. visit

U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly wanted to cancel Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington, but reversed his decision after a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.

This was reported by BFMTV, citing a source within French diplomatic circles.

On Wednesday, February 26, the Ukrainian government allegedly received a message from Washington indicating that Zelensky’s visit and his meeting with Trump would be canceled.

Following this, President Zelensky reached out to Emmanuel Macron, who then spoke with Trump and persuaded him to accept Zelensky’s visit. As a result, Trump changed his stance and confirmed Zelensky’s visit for February 28.

In anticipation of the meeting, Zelensky stated that he plans to ask Trump, among other things, about the future of U.S. support for Ukraine and the ongoing talks between Washington and Moscow regarding Ukraine.

Zelensky also emphasized that the issue of security guarantees in the context of a “mineral resources agreement” with the U.S. is of great importance to him, and the outcome of the upcoming conversation with Trump will play a critical role in determining the success of the agreement on natural resources.
