Orban confirms intention to ban LGBTQ+ Pride in Budapest

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has announced that the country’s authorities will no longer allow LGBTQ+ pride events. He made this statement on state radio, as reported by The Budapest Times.

According to Orbán, the government intends to ban the annual event, raising concerns about potential restrictions on civil liberties ahead of the 2026 elections. He linked this decision to the protection of children, claiming that the spread of gender ideologies harms the younger generation.

In the West, there are now about sixty different categories of ‘neither man nor woman’, he added, emphasizing that Hungary will resist such ideologies.

The Prime Minister reiterated that parents should have the right to protect their children from “gender activism.” In the near future, Hungarian authorities plan to amend the country’s constitution to legally enforce the ban on LGBTQ+ pride events.

Previously, in 2021, Orbán introduced a ban on “homosexual propaganda” among minors, despite criticism from the European Union and human rights organizations.
