U.S. and Russia agree on steps to stabilize diplomatic missions

The U.S. State Department has provided details about a recent meeting with Russian representatives in Turkey, where both sides agreed on initial measures to stabilize the operations of their diplomatic missions.

Held in Istanbul, the discussions focused on the functioning of U.S. and Russian embassies. The U.S. delegation was led by Sonata Coulter, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Russia and Central Europe, while the Russian delegation was headed by Alexander Darchiev, Director of the North Atlantic Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry and Ambassador.

“The United States expressed concerns regarding access to banking and contractual services, as well as the need to ensure a stable and sustainable staffing level at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. During constructive discussions, both sides identified concrete initial steps to stabilize the operations of their bilateral missions in these areas,” the State Department stated.

Coulter and Darchiev also agreed to hold another meeting on these issues in the near future, with details on the date, location, and participants yet to be finalized.
