U.S.-Ukraine mineral agreement derailed: Zelensky leaves White House after spat with Trump

Negotiations between the U.S. and Ukraine over the development of Ukrainian mineral resources ended without a resolution after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky unexpectedly left the White House. The signing of the agreement, scheduled for Friday, did not take place.

The situation escalated after Zelensky got into a heated argument with U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. The dispute, which was captured on camera, centered on the war in Ukraine and the prospects for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Following an emotional exchange of remarks, the leaders’ press conference was canceled, and Zelensky left the White House without commenting to reporters.

Donald Trump, addressing the incident on his social media platform Truth Social, stated that Zelensky had “disregarded” the United States and was “not ready for peace.” The U.S. president also noted that while Ukraine expects American support in negotiations, his priority is not to favor one side but to achieve peace.

Despite the tense talks, both sides failed to reach an agreement. The absence of a signed mineral resources agreement could impact U.S.-Ukraine cooperation in the extraction of strategic resources, making this diplomatic fallout particularly significant.
