On Friday, a meeting took place at the White House between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which a heated verbal exchange occurred. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance also joined the discussion.
The dispute began when Vance expressed dissatisfaction with Zelensky’s stance. He accused the Ukrainian leader of lacking sufficient gratitude toward the United States and reminded him that he had previously campaigned in favor of political opponents of the American administration. Zelensky responded that Ukraine had repeatedly expressed its gratitude, but his words were met with criticism from Trump.
Trump emphasized that it was his administration that had provided Ukraine with Javelin anti-tank missiles, whereas under Barack Obama, the country had received only minimal aid.
He also stated that Ukraine was in a difficult situation and should be grateful for U.S. support. According to him, without American military assistance, the conflict could have ended within a few weeks.
Zelensky, in turn, stressed that Ukraine continues to resist aggression and has no intention of giving up the fight. However, Trump persistently urged the Ukrainian leader to consider a ceasefire, arguing that it could save lives and stabilize the situation.
Vance supported Trump, stating that disagreements should be resolved through diplomacy rather than via the American media. He accused Zelensky of refusing to acknowledge mistakes and of placing excessive pressure on the United States.
