Mexico is preparing retaliatory measures against the U.S.: additional tariffs and economic tensions

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that the country will implement retaliatory measures against the United States this coming Sunday, including the introduction of additional tariffs.

This decision is in response to actions taken by President Donald Trump, who imposed 25% tariffs on Mexican goods. In her statement, Sheinbaum emphasized that the U.S. decision is unfounded and not only an economic mistake but also a political insult to the Mexican government.

There are no reasons or justifications for the U.S. to impose tariffs, especially considering that the White House’s comments about Mexico are unacceptable. We strongly reject them and believe that such actions harm bilateral relations, Sheinbaum said.

The Mexican currency, the peso, immediately reacted to this with an economic decline, falling by 1.5% against the U.S. dollar. This situation raises questions about the potential deterioration of economic relations between the two countries.

Similar measures have already been taken by other countries affected by tariff increases, such as Canada and China. They have also imposed retaliatory tariffs on American goods, which has worsened trade tensions and led to increased economic instability on a global level.
