Germany may revoke residence permits for refugees from Ukraine who do not have a Ukrainian passport

Some Ukrainian refugees could lose their protected status if they are citizens of third countries.

This applies to those who previously worked or studied in Ukraine but did not have Ukrainian citizenship. Specifically, this concerns citizens of Syria, Nigeria, Thailand, and Egypt.

Currently, more than 1.2 million refugees from Ukraine are in Germany, 97% of whom have a Ukrainian passport. For these people, the residence permit in Germany is valid until at least March 4, 2026. However, for stateless individuals or citizens of third countries without a Ukrainian passport, this status no longer applies.

Nevertheless, such individuals can obtain a residence permit in Germany under general conditions. They will need to prove knowledge of the German language, have an employment contract, and not have committed any criminal offenses.
