U.S. authorities have detained a militant linked to the attack on Moscow’s Crocus City Hall concert venue, CNN reports, citing a statement from U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the news outlet, the detainee is Mohammad Sharifulla, also known as “Jafar.” He was involved in the 2021 bombing at Kabul’s Abbey Gate airport and participated in planning the attack in Moscow. On March 5, he appeared before a court in Virginia, facing a potential life sentence. The trial proceedings are set to begin on March 10.
During an FBI interrogation, Sharifulla admitted his connection to the terrorist group ISIS-Khorasan and his role in preparing several attacks. Specifically, he trained militants who carried out the assault on Crocus City Hall, instructing them on the use of firearms, including Kalashnikov rifles.
Court documents state that Sharifulla identified two of the four individuals arrested after the Moscow attack as his former trainees.
