Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that he will soon recommend the country’s withdrawal from two international conventions banning the use of antipersonnel mines and cluster munitions.
During his speech in the Sejm on Friday, Tusk stated that he would recommend Poland’s exit from the Ottawa Convention and possibly the Dublin Convention as well. “I am referring to antipersonnel mines and cluster munitions,” he said.
The Ottawa Convention aims to prohibit the use, stockpiling, production, and transfer of antipersonnel mines, with the goal of completely eliminating them from armed conflicts. The Convention on Cluster Munitions, on the other hand, was adopted in Dublin in 2008 and also seeks to ban the use of these weapons.
In addition, Tusk announced that the Polish government is working on creating a military training model for all adult men in the country in case of war.
