Russia is willing to discuss a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine, according to Bloomberg. Sources indicate that the Russian leadership is prepared to halt combat operations if progress is made toward a final peace settlement.
As part of a potential ceasefire agreement, President Vladimir Putin will insist on a “clear understanding of the basic principles of a final peace agreement.”
One of the key issues for Russia is determining the parameters of a peacekeeping mission, including which countries will participate in deploying forces. Russia has rejected the involvement of European countries but has no objections to the deployment of peacekeeping forces from countries like China, which has remained neutral in the conflict.
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump has called for an immediate ceasefire along the frontlines, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed a temporary moratorium on strikes against infrastructure while ground combat continues.
