Law enforcers shot and killed an Afghan man in Germany during a police operation

In the eastern German city of Schenebek, a 26-year-old Afghan citizen was shot and killed during a police operation. He later died in the hospital.

According to dpa, citing the police, officers were called to an apartment building where, it was reported, a man was threatening a 26-year-old German. The motive for the incident remains unclear, said a police spokesperson.

When the Afghan man began threatening the police with a knife, a special forces unit was called. During the operation, officers opened fire on the suspect, who later died in the hospital.

According to Germany’s Ministry of the Interior, the Afghan arrived in the country in November 2022 and had been living in Schenebek. He was in Germany illegally and had not attracted attention from the police.

Last week, in the German city of Mannheim, a car sped into a crowd, killing two people and injuring 25 others. Additionally, in Munich, a driver deliberately ran into a group of protesters—he was also an Afghan citizen.
