Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has accused the Polish government of attempting to hinder Donald Trump’s peace initiatives regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine.
In a post on Facebook, Szijjártó stated that Polish authorities, including the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister, are allegedly obstructing peace negotiations, claiming that prolonging the conflict is more beneficial for Europe. Meanwhile, Hungary, the United States, and other countries support a peaceful resolution.
Szijjártó emphasized that Trump’s peace efforts could succeed if it weren’t for the intervention of Poland and other EU members. He also pointed out that 26 EU countries voted for continuing the war, while Hungary and the United States are advocating for peace.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán became the only EU leader to refuse to sign the EU summit’s agreement on supporting Ukraine on March 6. In response to the situation, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the U.S. is adjusting its policy regarding the war but added that one cannot “complain about reality.”
