Refugee from Libya attacks guard at Dresden prison

In Dresden prison, 31-year-old Libyan citizen Sani A. attacked a prison guard, armed with a homemade knife made from razor blades.

Following the attack, the assailant was handcuffed and fitted with leg shackles to prevent further assaults on prison staff.

Sani A., who arrived in Germany 15 years ago, has a long criminal record. He was arrested for stealing a bottle of whiskey and later attacked a store security guard with a knife and a stone. Later, while being transported to court, he bit a police officer, causing serious injury. For this crime, the Libyan was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison.

Two weeks after starting his sentence, the inmate attacked prison guards again. When five officers entered his cell, he attempted several times to stab one of them in the stomach with a homemade knife. The attacker was subdued, and another razor blade was later found hidden in his shoe.

During his trial, Sani A. stated that he does not understand why he is in prison.
