The U.S. administration is expressing expectations of significant progress in the upcoming negotiations with Ukraine, which are set to take place in Saudi Arabia this week.
Steve Whitcoff, President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, stated that the talks, scheduled for February 11, should yield substantial results. He also expressed hope that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would return to the United States to sign an agreement on mineral extraction.
Meanwhile, key issues on the negotiation table will include security protocols for Ukrainians and territorial disputes. The exchange of intelligence information will also be an important topic.
Earlier, reports indicated that the U.S. side intends to use the meeting to assess whether Ukraine is willing to make concessions to Russia in order to end the war. In recent weeks, Trump has expressed frustration with Ukraine, noting the depletion of its human resources and the need for swift negotiations with Russia.
In response, the Trump administration suspended arms supplies and intelligence sharing with Kyiv, accusing the Ukrainians of insufficient openness to the peace process. On Sunday, March 9, Trump stated that the U.S. had “almost completed the pause” in providing intelligence to Ukraine.
