Gdańsk launched an operation to clear 100 munitions

A large-scale operation to neutralize around 100 unexploded ordnances has begun in the Polish city of Gdańsk. The explosives were discovered at the site of a future gas terminal.

According to RMF24, the World War II-era ordnances were found in the Gdańsk Bay during a survey of the area ahead of the construction of a floating terminal. In total, around 100 explosive objects, weighing up to 1,200 kg, were located on the seabed.

The controlled detonation process could take up to five days. The operation began on March 11, and from that day until Friday, as well as next Tuesday, certain beach areas will be closed to visitors from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. During this time, diver-sappers will be carrying out controlled detonations of the hazardous finds.

Previously, in November 2024, several dozen old shells were neutralized in this area, and in February, a shipment of cocaine worth $15 million was recovered from the seabed near Gdańsk.
