The Verdi union continues its warning strikes in the public sector at both the federal and local levels in Germany.
On March 11, workers from municipal administrations, kindergartens, hospitals, employment centers, and waste management companies are on strike in several federal states. It is expected that in North Rhine-Westphalia, there will be a complete cancellation of bus and local train services.
The Verdi union is demanding an 8% wage increase for public sector employees, but at least 350 euros more. Employers have not yet presented a specific proposal. The wage dispute is ongoing.
Meanwhile, after the warning strikes on March 10, operations at the largest German airports resumed.
Berlin’s airport expects 15,000 additional passengers throughout the day, who were unable to fly the day before. A total of 214 departures and 219 arrivals are scheduled.
At Germany’s largest airport in Frankfurt am Main, more than 1,100 takeoffs and landings are planned, requiring the processing of data for over 140,000 passengers.
At the same time, a representative of the Munich airport warned that as a result of the strike, several flights are still expected to be canceled, but most flights are being carried out as scheduled.
