Ukrainian woman detained in Poland for trafficking in human organs

A 35-year-old Ukrainian woman, wanted by Interpol for human organ trafficking, was arrested in Poland.

Marta Pentkovska, a spokesperson for the district prosecutor’s office in Przemyśl, reported that the arrested woman illegally acquired human organs (kidneys) in Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan between July 2017 and January 2019. She then resold these organs on the black market.

The woman was also wanted by the authorities in Kazakhstan, where she was sentenced to 12 years in prison for organ trafficking and involvement in an international criminal organization. During a border check in Poland, it was discovered that her details were in international databases, and the Kazakh justice system had forwarded the case to Interpol.

The arrested woman will await a Polish court decision regarding her potential extradition to Kazakhstan. At this stage, the prosecutor’s office has not disclosed additional details about the case.
