Oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline resumed to Slovakia

Oil supplies to Slovakia via the Russian pipeline “Druzhba” have been resumed, and the oil is expected to arrive in the country on the evening of March 12, according to the Slovak pipeline operator Transpetrol, as reported by Reuters.

Oil deliveries through this pipeline to Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic were suspended in recent days. Transpetrol clarified that after resolving technical issues on a section of the pipeline outside Slovakia, the flow of oil towards Slovakia has been restored.

The “Druzhba” pipeline has a southern branch that splits in Ukraine near the Slovak border: one line delivers oil to Slovakia and the Czech Republic, while the other goes to Hungary.

On March 11, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó explained that the suspension of supplies was due to an attack by a Ukrainian drone on a measuring station, calling on Ukraine not to target Hungary’s energy infrastructure. Later that evening, he announced that oil deliveries to Hungary had resumed.
