Germany thwarted likely attack on synagogue already attacked 5 years ago

Authorities in Germany have prevented a potential terrorist attack on the synagogue in Halle, which was the site of a tragic incident in 2019.

According to reports from German media, law enforcement agencies stopped the planned attack at the synagogue, and an investigation into the preparation of the terror act is underway. The Mitteldeutsche Zeitung and MDR publications reported that a suspect has been detained in connection with the case.

A prosecutor confirmed that an investigation is being conducted, but declined to provide further details to avoid compromising the process. According to sources, the authorities arrested a 19-year-old man who had planned the attack on the synagogue in Halle. The suspect was apprehended in Switzerland in February. It is known that he had purchased weapons and shared his intentions via messaging apps.

It is worth recalling that in 2019, during Yom Kippur, the most important Jewish holiday, Stefan B. (a German citizen) attempted to enter the synagogue in Halle but was unsuccessful. Following the failed attack, he killed two random passersby and injured two others. In 2020, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. During his trial, he expressed racist and anti-Semitic views. In 2022, while in prison, he briefly took hostages.
