French customs seize 826 kg of cocaine worth 24 million euros

French customs officers have seized 826 kilograms of cocaine from a truck at a rest area along a highway in southeastern France.

The operation took place on Saturday, March 15, near a motorway leading to Lyon, resulting in the arrest of the truck driver, a Polish national.

According to AFP, the intercepted shipment is valued at approximately 24 million euros. Official data reveals that in 2024, French customs confiscated 53.5 tons of cocaine—more than double the amount seized the previous year.

The seizure comes amid growing concerns from the French government over drug-related road fatalities, as statistics indicate that one in five deadly accidents in the country is linked to drug use.
