Following a 4.4-magnitude earthquake in the Naples area, residents are alarmed by the potential eruption of the Phlegraean Fields—one of the most active volcanic regions in the world.
In response, Italy’s Civil Protection Ministry has declared a national mobilization. If the threat intensifies, authorities plan to urgently evacuate approximately 500,000 people within three days to minimize the risks associated with ash, rock, and scorching gas flows.
Evacuation gathering points will be set up outside the danger zone, from where people will be transported using various means—buses, trains, ships, and airplanes. Officials assure that residents will be warned in advance if signs of an impending eruption appear.
