The American logistics company Crowley reported that only one tank of aviation fuel was damaged as a result of a collision off the coast of the United Kingdom.
According to Reuters, citing the company’s statement, an independent salvage team confirmed that the damage was limited to a cargo tank containing Jet-A1 fuel and a ballast compartment with seawater.
The incident occurred on March 10 in the North Sea, where an American oil tanker collided with a Portuguese cargo ship. The tanker Stena Immaculate had 16 fuel tanks on board. According to Crowley, out of 220,000 barrels of aviation fuel, 17,515 barrels were lost due to the collision and the subsequent three-day fire.
The ship’s crew activated the fire suppression system before evacuating, earning praise from the company. Meanwhile, aviation fuel spilled into the sea, but the extent of environmental damage has not yet been determined.
