German citizens warned of risk of detention and deportation to the U.S.

Germany’s Foreign Ministry has updated its travel recommendations for those visiting the United States, warning of an increased risk of deportation.

According to Spiegel, the ministry’s website states that previous criminal records in the U.S., false information about the purpose of the visit, or even a minor overstay could lead to arrest, detention, and deportation upon entry or departure from the country.

A ministry representative explained that the updated recommendations are linked to recent incidents involving German citizens traveling to the U.S. In recent days, several cases of Germans being detained at the border have been reported, with deportation now pending for them.

The tightened border controls are part of the new policies of President Donald Trump, aimed at combating illegal immigration.
